Pairing a POS device

Last updated August 11, 2026

Get your in-store terminal running in minutes.

Supported platforms

  • Android tablets and phones
  • Windows desktops and laptops
  • Linux desktops
  • macOS desktops and laptops
  • iOS (iPad and iPhone) — coming soon

The POS app is a native application. It is not a website you add to your home screen.

Step 1: Install the POS app

Download and install Tappya POS from the app store for your platform, or from the download link in your dashboard at app.tappya.com.

Step 2: Open the app and get the activation code

When you first open the app on a new device, it shows a Device Activation screen showing:

  • A QR code
  • A 6-digit activation code in XXX-XXX format

The device generates these automatically and waits on this screen.

Step 3: Activate the device from the dashboard

In the Tappya dashboard:

  1. Go to Settings > Devices and click Activate Device.
  2. Scan the QR code from the device screen, or enter the 6-digit code manually.
  3. Select the branch, device role (Main POS, Secondary POS, Waiter, or Kitchen Display), and name the device.
  4. Click Activate.

The device detects the approval within a few seconds, downloads its credentials, and proceeds to the staff login screen.

Step 4: Test a transaction

Create a test order, add items, and complete a payment. Check that the receipt prints correctly and the order appears in the kitchen display.

Unpairing

To remove a device, go to Settings > Devices in the dashboard, find the device, and deactivate it. The device will return to the activation screen the next time it opens.

Troubleshooting

  • Activation code not working: the code may have been used already. Close and reopen the POS app to generate a new one.
  • Cannot find printer: ensure the printer is on the same Wi-Fi network and supports ESC/POS.
  • Offline mode not available: the device must complete at least one sync while online before offline features are enabled.
