Mastering Catalog & Menu Management

Learn how to build a robust and flexible product structure. Understand the difference between a central catalog and multiple menus, and how to use Tappya's power tools.

The "Single Source of Truth" Philosophy

In Tappya, we distinguish between a Catalog and a Menu. Your Catalog is the central database of all your products, ingredients, and options. A Menu is a specific view of that catalog for a particular channel (e.g., Dine-in, Delivery, or Lunch Specials).

Understanding the Hierarchy

Variants vs. Modifiers

  • V
    Variants

Mutually exclusive choices. The customer picks exactly one. Examples: Pizza size (Small, Medium, Large) or Steak doneness.

  • M
    Modifiers

Optional add-ons. The customer can pick multiple or none. Examples: Pizza toppings (Pepperoni, Extra Cheese, Mushrooms).

How to Build Your First Menu

Step 1: Populate Catalog

Add your products in the central Catalog section. Remember: do this once per product.

Step 2: Create Menu

Navigate to "Menus" and create a new menu (e.g., "Dine-in Menu").

Step 3: Link Catalog

Pull items from your catalog into the new menu. You can override prices specifically for this menu.
